VCR Maintenance Workshop, presented by T.A.P.E.

VCR Maintenance returns to Whammy! this Saturday 4/12!

Machine maintenance is at the heart of tape-based media preservation and collecting. Dirty heads can create major damage and unwanted wear on tapes. Cleaning tape heads and the inside of your VCR is one of the most fundamental skills to learn as a VHS collector.

AV Archivist Jackie Forsyte will go over the basic best practices for VCR upkeep including:

1. Identifying VCR Parts
2. Cleaning video and audio heads
3. Cleaning the tape path and other easily accessible parts
4. Identifying when it’s time for minor mechanical repairs

Please bring a working VCR to use during the workshop. In this workshop, we are not able to repair electronic issues or repair mechanical ones. If you would like to take the workshop, but do not have a VCR please reach out and we can make arrangements!

We will be leading the way towards the light of a clean tape path, with safer playback machines for your precious tapes!
